YouTube to buy game streaming start-up, Twitch

It has been reported by sources such as Variety and The Wall Street Journal that Google’s YouTube; the video streaming giant, will buy out the popular game streaming start-up, Twitch for $1 billion.

With Twitch having more than 45 million monthly visitors and traffic beating Google in some instances during peak times, it will clearly be a major asset.  A buyout of the gaming company would be positive for Google’s video streaming capabilities and allow Twitch to boost its user base.

Nothing has been finalised about the buyout and with talk of the company trying to raise funds from investors instead of selling the company, there is still a while to go before anything is finalised.

Twitch was launched in 2011 and has quickly become one of the most popular sites for watching and broadcasting videogame play.
