A new Xbox Music API wants to make the service’s “over 18 million tracks” available for use in any game or application. Instead of having to create (or fund) the creation of your own soundtrack to go alongside your latest title – legally use something fitting which already exists to enhance whatever you’ve been working on.
The artists get paid for the tracks’ usage, and development costs are reduced whilst simultaneously creating better experiences. Users won’t need an Xbox Music subscription to listen within the game or application; and tracks are available for use offline.
Music can even be remixed freely where necessary – so you don’t have to feature the entire track and only the part which fits to make that moment more awesome.
A pilot program is available for a limited catalogue of music.
