Developer portals allow users to explore an ecosystem and begin their builder journey. For emerging technologies like Web3 and blockchain, a developer portal provides critical resources through a central hub to help developers overcome barriers around education, perception, and awareness.
Casper had a well-positioned blockchain but needed help setting developers in their ecosystem up for success. Catchy formulated a developer experience (DX) roadmap and go-to-market (GTM) strategy, before designing and building a fully custom developer portal to set them apart in a competitive landscape.

Meet the Client
With a focus on making it easy for enterprises and developers to build blockchain-enabled products, Casper Network is a Layer-1 Proof of Stake blockchain. Developers building enterprise products and solutions are a core part of their target audience, including Web2 developers seeking to extend the functionality of their apps with Web3 functionalities.
Casper manages the blockchain's ongoing adoption, evolution, and decentralization, prioritizing ecosystem growth in their developer marketing initiatives.

The Challenge
Casper partnered with Catchy to build the foundation for a comprehensive developer marketing program. Initially, they presented the following goals:

Our initial priority in addressing these goals was strengthening their existing developer resources while looking for opportunities to create new ones. We saw these resources as assets that would immediately benefit their program and set them up for long-term success.
Our challenge was navigating the Casper Network’s intricate technical foundations, comprehending the ecosystem's complexities, and leveraging existing resources to design a forward-thinking solution that could adapt and evolve with time.

Our Approach
We started by creating a comprehensive DX roadmap and a GTM strategy, informed by insights from stakeholder interviews, a competitor analysis, and a top-to-tail audit of Casper’s existing documentation and developer resources.
Working with stakeholders across their organization, we initiated an in-depth consulting engagement that laid the foundation for our strategic initiatives. This engagement included stakeholder interviews, extensive secondary research, and a thorough competitor analysis which allowed us to grasp the blockchain’s current position and identify gaps in its developer experience.
Our recommendations were strategically tailored to lay the groundwork for a best-in-class developer ecosystem that could accommodate continuous growth and development. While our initial efforts were focused on launching a developer portal within three months, the DX roadmap and GTM strategy provided phased recommendations through the end of 2024.
The culmination of our strategic work materialized in the form of the developer portal, which launched on time and made an immediate impact on developer productivity. The portal was designed with an eye toward future evolution to reflect the ongoing growth of the ecosystem.
