Twitter celebrates its 7th birthday with 200 million users
Since Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, posted the first ever tweet: “just setting up my twttr” on the 21st March 2006, the micro-blogging site has attracted over 200 million users over the last seven years. It now sees 400 million tweets sent every day, with women tweeting about personal matters, television and work, and men discussing sport gaming and news.
Twitter is also proving to have a significant impact on TV ratings with conversation leading to more people wanting to tune in to the most discussed progammes, which isn’t surprising when it is the most popular topic to tweet about with 40% of evening tweets discussing what’s on television.
