Tumblr launches mobile ads in its iOS and Android apps
The adverts appear as posts marked by an animated dollar sign which viewers can ‘like’ and ‘reblog.’ Tumblr has assured users that they will see no more than four sponsored posts per day.
Tumblr’s decision to take advantage of the rapidly growing mobile advertising market is no surprise when you consider its mobile viewership has quadrupled in the last six months and the market is estimated to increase by 65% to $2.1 billion in the U.S. alone this year. Tumblr founder and CEO David Karp had also said earlier this year that he expected mobile traffic to overtake desktop traffic by early 2014 at the latest.
