Tesco’s CEO, Philip Clarke announced during an interview on BBC Radio 5 on Tuesday that the supermarket giant will be releasing its own smartphone.
Having seen such success with the release of the Hudl in 2013, resulting in sales of over half a million units, Tesco have decided to join the smartphone market.
The Android- based device which is set to be released at the end of the year, will further increase Tesco’s position as a reputable technology retailer. The device will be sold with an array of pre-loaded Tesco services including BlinkBox, Tesco’s on-demand TV and movies service and a number of other apps.
As mentioned, the supermarket giant hasn’t just focused its aims on tech, the company already has a large selection of apps for iOS, Android and Windows 8 covering services such as shopping, car insurance and photography. This means that users of the Tesco
Smartphone will have access to a number of apps to play with on their new device.
The company also has plans to release a follow-up device to its first tablet. The device will be called Hudl 2 and is due for release in September this year.
