Mobile app market estimated to value at $27 billion in 2013

New research, conducted by ABI Research, has estimated that the mobile app market will be worth $27 billion in 2013, with Apple, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry all competing for the top spot.

Whilst Android recently surpassed Apple in total number of app downloads, it is Apple that is estimated to generate over two-thirds of the revenues for smartphone and tablet apps in 2013. This is as a result of iOS users choosing to spend more money on apps within the Apple App Store.

Tablet revenues are also expected to rise as it is projected tablet app revenues will actually overtake smartphones by 2017 due to users being more inclined to pay more for apps on their tablet than their smartphones because of the larger screen size and better user experience for gaming and reading are the primary drivers.
