Microsoft support for Windows XP will expire today, this means that they will no longer issue security patches. Without security patches, many would argue that business users would be foolish to continue using XP, as they may be vulnerable to viruses and malware that could potentially jeopardise their business.
In reality this may not be the case, just because Microsoft has stopped shipping patches does not mean the antivirus vendors have stopped supporting XP. This has been shown by McAfee, Symantec and Kaspersky all pledging to continue to support XP for varying lengths of time.
However, businesses are still being advised to start planning for a future without XP, as two of the antivirus vendors are being vague over the length of their support. It will be interesting to see how this will pan out, with businesses reacting before it really is too late.
