Distimo‘s monthly report reveals the most downloaded free, paid and top grossing global apps and publishers for July.
In the battle of the apps stores, the growth of Google Play‘s revenue at 67% over the last six months, was significantly greater than its rival’s, the Apple App Store, whose total revenues have increased by 15%. Interestingly though, the Apple App Store has generated twice as much revenue over this time period.
In July, the US spent the most money on apps, followed by Japan and South Korea, who contributed to Google Play’s increase in revenue. The app which generated the most revenue globally in July was Candy Crush Saga – in both the Apple App Store and Google Play. Globally, the top paid downloaded app of July 2013 for iOS was Whatsapp Messenger and for Google Play it was SwiftKey Keyboard. Top publisher in July was Gameloft, a developer that showed global success on all three main app stores in july (Google Play, Apple App Store and Amazon Appstore) thanks to the popularity of its app, Despicable Me.
