Google Play downloads exceed iOS App Store’s by 10%
App Annie reports that Google Play’s total app downloads were 10% higher than those in the iOS App Store in Q2 2013 but the iOS App Store generated 2.3x the revenue.The two highest ranking countries make up 40% of total iOS App Store downloads – China and the US – but Russia climbed three places to make an appearance in the iOS top 5. Google Play saw Brazil move up 2 places to join its top 5.
Revenue streams continue to be dominated by the US and Japan – around 50% of iOS App Store revenue is generated by these two countries; while US, Japan and South Korea account for 70% of Google Play’s revenue. The games category still contributes most to revenue (80% in Google Play and 75% in the iOS App Store).
