The new version will see Foursquare’s location search feature: Explore, readily accessible at the center of the app’s top navigation panel (before it was hidden in its own separate tab at the bottom of the screen). The activity feed has also been adjusted to not only show your friends’ activity but to also show trending locations, recommendations and other local happenings.
Foursquare hopes the new changes will make it the go-to app when people are looking for new places to try out, which in turn could have a great knock on effect for local businesses. VentureBeat stated that: ‘If Foursquare can prove that it consistently drives more visitors to businesses, it can also give those local businesses a more convincing case for why they should plunk down cash for Foursquare’s paid products’.
