Fingerprint recognition could replace smartphone passwords

Last year Samsung introduced the face recognition unlock feature in its Galaxy S3 and now it seems Apple may also be replacing passwords with fingerprint recognition to unlock the phone with the owners fingerprint.

It is thought the next iPhone (iPhone 5s) will have a ‘fingerprint chip under the Home button’ which will improve security and usability. This comes after KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said his firm expected to see the results of Apple’s takeover of biometric security firm: AuthenTec this summer with the new iPhone 5S.

Speculation continues to grow around other manufacturers who are thought to be experimenting with iris scanning and voice recognition.
