Apple to buy Beats Electronics

It’s been heavily speculated that Apple are close to acquiring Beats Electronics for more than $3.2 billion, although this still has not been confirmed.

Both of these brands align, with Apple’s iTunes store and iPod being extremely influential to how we listen to music now.  Many people perceive both brands as “premium” or over hyped.  The question on everyone’s lips is why would a brand with Apple’s capacity, brand equity and experience in making audio hardware and streaming software want to pay such a huge price for something it can already do?

What can Beats offer Apple in terms of users?  Its headphone sales are strong  but enough to merit that $3.2 billion asking price?  For all amount of logical reasons why this shouldn’t happen, the buzz behind this story is impossible to ignore.
