Shipments of PCs, tablets and mobile phones of all shapes and sizes will increase by 7.6% year-on-year to 2.47 billion units, as users across the globe continue to buy more tablets and phones.
Google’s Android will continue to be the most popular OS by a wide margin thanks to the growing popularity of low-cost smartphones. This year that segment of the market will help Android devices surpass shipments of 1 billion units for the first time. By 2017, more than 75% of Android’ shipments will come from emerging markets, Gartner said.
Mobile phones are the most shipped devices, but tablets are showing the most growth promise. In 2014, tablets will demonstrate a 47% growth rate, according to Gartner’s projections.
