Why McDonalds is one of the great turnaround brands

Not that long ago McDonalds was a dirty word. Admittedly it’s not seen as a beacon of global popularity and healthy eating, but it has managed to dramatically improve its brand perception, how has it done that?
Some of the story is well known, a switch to some healthy choice options, a more relaxed ambience, competitive pricing, value adds like wifi etc. but at the same time they have delivered some fantastic advertising, much of it humorous, they haven’t been afraid to allow you a smile at them but have retained total brand control.
